Another possibly idea, if we can find solar materials in the right size, we could easily make a sort of mosaic over the floating statue that would absorb light.  As I'm envisioning it, it might cause a little less of the peaceful feel, and bring more excitement since it is shiny.

Maybe want to convey the excitement of the future.  Found website for solar materials, may want to go through a little to see what is possible to create.

Also there is a possible "solar skin," should look into that.

Finally, there is an eco-quiz that estimates the impact or eco-footprint that you make, would be interesting to take and find out what impact we make on the environment.

Look at materials that leave 0 environmental footprint.  Would be clear and have the concept of making more out of nothing.  Why leave an impact?

Materials were not clear but could shape them.

Could even make footprints that gradually disappear.
